Health News: Looked-after children - Liverpool pushes for betterlifestyle

Liverpool children's services has pioneered a Healthy Homes award to improve healthcare for looked-after children.

The award sets a minimum standard designed to ensure that foster carersand residential homes provide a healthy setting.

It also encourages looked-after children, their foster carers andresidential children's homes to develop healthy lifestyles, through aHealthy Homes pack and health-related activities such as cookeryclubs.

Funding is from the local drugs and alcohol team, and a child andadolescent mental health grant.

Maria Cody, children's services commissioner for Central LiverpoolPrimary Care Trust, said: "The results are encouraging."
