The research, carried out on behalf of the Coventry Teenage Partnership Board, looked at the experiences of pregnant teenagers before and after terminations and miscarriages. Researchers spoke to 15 professionals, and four 16- to 20-year-old young women.
They found young people felt there was little opportunity to discuss feelings around terminations and miscarriages, and that healthcare staff were sometimes unsympathetic.
Young women often felt family members or partners put pressure on them to consider terminations. The report points out that the Governments Teenage Pregnancy Strategy has promoted the view that pregnancies are undesirable.
It calls for improved services for young women and better, unbiased education in schools.
