Health: Children's services - Targets distract NHS managers

Children are still a low priority in the NHS, according to an eminent paediatrician.

Professor Sir Alan Craft, former president of the Royal College ofPaediatrics and Child Health and chair of a Government working group forchildren's palliative care, made the claim in the British MedicalJournal. He warned that managers are distracted by high profile targetsfor waiting lists.

The news came as research from the Institute of Child Health revealedchildren with cancer in the UK have a lower survival rate than other EUcountries.
