Health: Breastfeeding - 200 MPs sign up to coalition manifesto

More than 200 MPs have backed a manifesto for boosting breastfeeding rates.

Thirty organisations have also signed up to the Breastfeeding Manifesto,including five royal colleges representing health professionals, Savethe Children and La Leche League. Other supporters include celebrityUnicef ambassador Jemima Khan.

The manifesto's objectives include better training for healthprofessionals, laws giving women the right to breastfeed at work, andpupils learning about breastfeeding as part of the NationalCurriculum.

A spokeswoman for the Breastfeeding Manifesto Coalition said thecampaign wanted the UK's main political parties to support the proposalsin their next general election manifestos. Menzies Campbell, leader ofthe Liberal Democrats, has already signed up.
