Depression affects the behaviour of thousands of teenagers each year, but there is help available.

Young Minds' Lucie Russell looks at how to spot the warning signs and what action youth workers can take if they suspect a young person is experiencing problems.

Q: How many young people suffer from depression each year?

Nearly 80,000 children and young people are seriously depressed. Of these, about 62,000 are aged 11- to 16-years-old and 8,700 are aged five- to 10-years-old, according to the latest Mental Health of Children and Young People in Great Britain study.

Almost one fifth of calls taken on YoungMinds' parents helpline were from parents or carers worried about their child's depression.
