Hardship Fund

What is it? The Hardship Fund was unveiled by the Chancellor in April and has just opened for applications.

It will provide grants to third sector organisations delivering frontline services to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in society. The Community Development Foundation will administer the grants.

How much is on offer? A total of £16.7m is available. Grants of between £50,000 and £250,000 will be available to organisations with a turnover of at least £200,000 a year.

What will it fund? It will fund work in the following areas: health and social care; housing support; education and training; and information, advice and guidance.

Who can apply? Third sector organisations where the recession is affecting their ability to deliver services in the above areas. Grants will be assessed on need and be given to those organisations that are in immediate financial hardship.
