Hamble Primary School, Southampton

1 min read Education Extra-curricular

What are they doing? Children at Hamble Primary School in Southampton are taking part in outdoor educational activities. The scheme, which is being run by Royal Victoria Country Park, is designed to encourage children to learn about nature, conservation and history.

What does it involve? One of the activities, History Detectives, delves into the military history of the park, which was once home to one of the largest military hospitals in the world. All of the activities are taught in line with the National Curriculum.

What do the professionals say? Margaret Snaith-Tempia, Hampshire Council's executive member for culture and recreation, says: "Hampshire is home to some spectacular countryside and this is a great way to get young children not only discovering the great outdoors on their doorstep but also learning about the history of the park." David Kirk, Hampshire's lead member for children's services, says: "I hope it will encourage schools and youth groups around Southampton to get children learning about new environments."
