
A total of 18 employees are set to be made redundant from the Hackney community safety team, which currently numbers 26. The move is part of a joint review between the local authority and the police.
Roles to be scrapped are expected to include the knife crime prevention co-ordinator and the crime data analyst. At the time of going to press, Hackney Council was unable to confirm the exact roles to go, or whether anyone else in the council dealt with knife crime.
The council claimed the review was part of a wider agenda to target resources in the "most effective way" and "refocus the service", but crime prevention charities have voiced concerns.
