Guidance to help lead councillors

Careers
The Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) is developing advice for councillors in charge of children and young people's services.

The guidance aims to help lead members understand their role and what the priorities for children's services are. The web-based Must Knows guidance will be based around a set of questions, such as "how do you know partnership working is effective?". This will be accompanied by supporting information including key issues, hints, and tips.

"We are aware of the complexity of the role of lead members and the lack of a clear framework of what they should know and be asking about in relation to the quality, performance and effectiveness of services they are responsible for," explained Andrew Cozens, IDeA's strategic adviser for children, adults and health services.
