Grants for the Arts

1 min read
What it is: Grants for the Arts is funded by The National Lottery and supports work in England. A new version of the Grants for the Arts application materials has just been launched, consisting of a simpler application form, enhanced guidance and revised details on how applications are assessed. The new application forms will be accepted from Tuesday 20 May.

How much is on offer: Grants to individuals range from £200 to £30,000 and can cover activities lasting between three to five years. Grants to organisations have a ceiling of £100,000.

What it will fund: Grants for the Arts' aim is to put art at the heart of national life and people at the heart of arts. It wants to provide creative opportunities for children and young people and help more people take part in activities. It also aims to help the development of artists, art organisations and the creative economy. The money will be used to provide artists from England with the opportunity to work abroad and help them create vibrant communities.

Who can apply: The grants are for individuals, organisations and other groups that use the arts in their work. Grants are for time-limited activities that benefit people, or help artists and arts organisations in England to carry out their work. There are some exceptions when artists from England are involved in activities in other countries.

Who it has funded: Amplifier, a project in Suffolk that organises music clubs and runs a youth orchestra, received £165,000 to launch an initiative that focused on rock, pop and dance music.

How to apply: Go to www.artscouncil.org.uk/funding/gfta2006.php to download an application pack.
