Government gets grilling from UN

The government is waiting to hear back from the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child after it was quizzed in Geneva last week.

The Children's Rights Alliance for England took a group of children andyoung people to the committee to witness the government give evidence onits children's rights record.

Plans to end child poverty and give young asylum seekers equal rightswere praised. But the government faced almost 200 questions over twodays, as the committee raised concerns over privacy rights, the juvenilejustice system and the negative media image of children.

The committee will publish its recommendations to the government thisFriday (3 October).
