Project Inspiring Futures
Funding The cost of the programme at Overton Grange is covered by a local businessman who has committed £50,000 a year to the school over four years
Purpose To raise the aspirations of pupils
Background Overton Grange School is a mixed comprehensive for students aged 11 to 19 in the London Borough of Sutton, which also has five grammar schools. Head teacher Peter Butterworth says: "One issue we had was a lack of aspiration among some students who didn't get into grammar school. This was reinforced by the fact that parents hadn't gone to university or weren't from professional backgrounds." The school's solution was to bring in specialist careers service Inspiring Futures.
