Giving a pond new life: Young people clear water feature of litter

Lewis Leonard and Graham Scamp take to the water at Spinney Woods Pond in Knowsley, Merseyside to clear up litter.

They are part of a group of young people from the Knowsley Action Team for Youth who decided to adopt the pond and transform it, removing litter and giving it some much-needed care and attention. Project co-ordinator John Farrell says: "Seeing the vast improvement the young people made has been such an inspiration. Now they have decided to keep up the maintenance so the pond remains a lovely community attraction."
