Gifted and Talented

1 min read Participation
Like many schools, the one I go to in South East London has a Gifted and Talented programme, for which I was chosen.

It combines the Asdan and Certificate of Personal Effectiveness awards schemes, and includes debates on interesting and controversial topics. I am very excited about the opportunities this gives me and the two extra GCSEs that I will receive thanks to it.

Unfortunately, this brilliant opportunity for learning and discovery is only for the highest achieving students in each year group. It left me thinking that a lot of young people don't get to participate in these debates. If a person struggles in geography and modern languages, it should not deprive them of their right to voice their opinions.

If I were in charge of Gifted and Talented, I would make it so that anyone who wished to express their views on particular topics could do so with others their age and if they wanted to they could put their opinions in an essay which could go towards a qualification.
