Gangs: Met police to focus on young Asians

The project, set up last year, is part of Operation Quadrant, a Met initiative to reduce crimes committed by South Asians. About 12 young Bangladeshis have visited personal development organisation Brathay Hall Trust's centre in Cumbria as part of a pilot. The trust, which helped to develop a bespoke course for the Met, will take about 100 young people a year from deprived communities on six week-long courses.

Mike O'Keith, project manager at Operation Quadrant, said: "Gangs often approach young people to run drugs so we want to be able to empower them to say no. We are working with the youth offending teams in the 32 boroughs to identify young people to send on the programme."
