Young people from North Shields have a go at climbing during an "action day" organised by North Tyneside Council. The action day was designed to help the council find out what teenagers in the area want from their local youth service and to make them more aware of existing activities. To make the day more exciting, the council organised various activities for the young people to try out. These included climbing, nail art, skateboarding and community radio. North Tyneside's mayor, John Harrison (Labour), said: "This event was about listening to young people, and conversations I had with them were very informative. I learned a great deal about the issues young people face and we must do more to help them. We have a responsibility to include them in helping to plan our future."
