Housing minister Yvette Cooper has announced 50m of funding to help homeless and overcrowded families in London. Councils will use the cash to provide settled homes for families in temporary accommodation, carry out housing extensions and help support single people who want to move out of the family home. "The answer in the long-term is to build more homes," said Cooper. "But in the meantime we can do more for families in desperate need today." www.communities.gov.uk.
