Fruitful Venture: Manchester school sells healthy food

Manchester children try their hand at a running a fruit and veg stall as part of an initiative to get primary school pupils eating their five a day.

The stall sells fresh fruit and vegetables every Friday from theplayground of Abbey Hey Primary School in Gorton. Pupils at the schoolproposed the idea and staff the stall with help from two teachingassistants. Profits are used to provide young pupils with fruit snacksduring break times. Head teacher Gaynor Moorhouse said: "Unfortunately, there aren't really any local outlets in the immediate area for buyingfresh fruit and vegetables. Having the market on the playground meansthat parents don't have to make a special trip to the shops to stock upon their greens."
