Foster families to offer respite care

1 min read Social Care
A service to provide disabled children in East Anglia with respite care through foster families is being set up by Scope.

The disability charity's service will provide children with short- and long-term breaks in a family home rather than in a residential care home. The service is for children from birth to 18 who have complex needs.

Shathy Bano, fostering services manager for Scope, said disabled children can often face barriers in finding the right placements and it can be a challenge for organisations and local authorities to find suitable placements.

"Scope believes disabled children should have equal access to a range of options, including family-based care," she said. "Through family-based care disabled children can fulfil their potential, like all children, and participate in the wider community. This does require a high level of support but the outcomes can be rewarding."
