1 min read
Workers at supermarket giant Tesco can now take up to five days paid leave to train to become foster carers, thanks to an agreement with retail union Usdaw.

The idea was raised by a Usdaw member and taken by a representative tothe union's national forum where it was prioritised as an issue for thenext pay review. Now Tesco and the union have agreed to take the schemeUK-wide.

Employees can take up the paid leave to complete the foster carerapplication process, attend foster care related meetings or completetraining to become foster parents.

Usdaw general secretary John Hannett said: "We are delighted Tesco hasrecognised that foster carers need paid leave to complete what isrightly a detailed and time-consuming process."

He added the union would be looking to strike similar agreements withother retail groups, saying the Tesco model would be held up as anexample of what could be achieved.
