Fledgelings Day Nursery, Kent

1 min read Early Years
What is happening at Fledgelings? The nursery has just been accredited by children's communication charity I Can for excellence in speech and language.

What does that mean? The setting promotes the development of speech and language skills. It is aware that some children have difficulties in this area and knows who to contact for support.

How did it get accredited? Fledgelings does a lot of work with severely autistic children by engaging in plenty of eye contact, communicating with children on their level, and encouraging non-verbal communication and good hand-eye co-ordination. This prompted the special educational needs area manager to nominate the nursery.

What did the process involve? A portfolio of evidence of what the nursery does was required. Two inspectors from I Can then visited the setting last month and observed the way it operates in areas such as team motivation, health and safety, and sharing good practice.
