A third of children's centres are now located on school sites. Joe Lepper meets the new breed of professionals juggling two jobs.

Having children's centres and schools on the same site is seen by the government and children's professionals alike as a good way to improve local services for families.

Around a third of the existing 1,583 children's centres are on school sites and the Department for Children, Schools and Families is keen to see many more as part of its roll out of around 1,000 more centres by next year. A spokesman says: "Schools provide a natural focus for local communities and are often the most accessible option for parents with children of both school and pre-school age. Co-location can also result in improved transition arrangements for children who are starting formal education."
