Family support: Quality assurance scheme launched

A quality assurance system designed to improve the work of Home-Start's 338 local projects launched last week.

The family support charity plans to introduce the system across the UKby the end of January. Once introduced, local projects will be assessedagainst the system's 16 quality standards once every three years.

The quality standards cover governance, planning, equal opportunities, managing staff, monitoring support for families, promoting children'swelfare and confidentiality.

Sue Everitt, director of planning, policy and practice at Home-Start'said the system would give funders of the charity "even more" confidencein its work. The move follows a critical evaluation of Home-Start lastyear (Children Now, 28 September-4 October 2004).
