Family courts: Lawyer admits perverting justice

A lawyer and well known script writer and producer has admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice in a child custody case.

Bruce Hyman pleaded guilty to the charge at Taunton Crown Court on 6August and has been released on bail pending sentencing.

Hyman was caught on CCTV sending an email to his opponent, the child'sfather Simon Eades, before a hearing in the custody case in September2006.

The email, a fake legal document, was designed to show Eades in anegative manner.

Hyman, a barrister and producer of programmes including a radio versionof The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, could face a prisonsentence.

Eades said: "It's unbelievable, a disgrace. The police and the CrownProsecution Service did a fantastic job, but nobody could believe it, itwas so incredible."

John Baker, chair of charity Families Need Fathers, said: "We arepleased this case was fully investigated. However, the English familycourts are secret and in the normal course their proceedings are subjectonly to the limited scrutiny of the Court of Appeal.
