Extended services budget is set out

1 min read Education
The government has revealed how money to develop extended schools will be distributed during the next three years.

A guidance document issued to councils and schools last week explains how the Department for Children, Schools and Families expects the £1.3bn extended schools budget to be spent.

The money is being distributed through several funds - the Standards Fund, the Area Based Grant, the National Challenge and, during 2008/09, the Sure Start, Early Years and Childcare Grant.

The funds will cover the costs of starting up extended services, help pay for running costs and subsidise activities for children and young people. There is also cash to help provide study support to children in underperforming schools that are part of the National Challenge and money for building and equipment costs faced by primary schools.
