Explorer Scouts stage river rescue

A group of 16-year-old Scouts from Llangollen, Wales, have been involved in a dramatic river rescue on the River Wye.

The five Explorer Scouts were paddling from Glasbury in Powys to Hoarwithy in Herefordshire as part of a three-day expedition last month when they encountered a group of people in hired boats who were in distress.

One of the group's paddlers had been thrown into the water and another was left standing in the sinking canoe after it became stuck against a bridge. The Explorer Scouts rescued the canoeist from the water and led the other person to safety.

Leader Joanne Gregory said: "I am really proud of the way the Explorers worked together as a team to manage the situation."
