The Government-commissioned 2004/05 School Sport Survey has revealedthat 31 per cent of schoolchildren in England do not get involved insports lessons, despite ministers' attempts to boost participation bysetting up school sports partnerships. But the figures do show thatthere has been a marked increase in take-up since last year.
Junior schools minister Lord Andrew Adonis insisted the Government stillwanted all children to be doing two hours of sport every week by2010.
"We remain well on track to meet our targets," he said.
School sports partnerships bring primary, special and secondary schoolstogether in a network that receives extra money and staff to increasesports opportunities for pupils of all ages. At least 54 per cent ofschools in England are now part of a school sports partnership.
