A report on the experiences of young people from black and ethnic minorities in London has revealed that 80 per cent have encountered racial abuse.
The report, Young People, Big Issues, surveyed 520 young people aged eight to 14 across eight London boroughs, as part of a consultation exercise by the Black London Forum and the 1990 Trust.
Launched during the Black, Minority Ethnic and Refugee Young People's Conference, which saw 200 young people, senior policy makers and community safety practitioners attend City Hall last week, the report found that 10 per cent had been subjected to physical racist attacks. More than 30 per cent had direct experience of crime in the last 12 months.
The report recommends more visible policing, improved liaison with schools, and helplines.
