The government set the wheels in motion to make it a legal requirement to end child poverty today (Wednesday 28 January). The consultation is expected to run until 11 March, and CYP Now understands the government aims to bring in the law by the end of April.
The consultation will help the government define what eradicating child poverty is and how it should pursue its targets on a central and local level. The government will also publish a strategy for meeting the 2020 target, which will be refreshed every three years, as well as an annual progress report to Parliament.
