There have been major changes to the careers advice service under the coalition government and Labour’s proposals attempt to address some of the concerns that have arisen as a result by creating a new independent advice system and reinstating the requirement for face-to-face guidance and compulsory work experience as pupils approach the age of 16.

After much upheaval in recent years, the Conservatives want schools to bed in their local approaches to careers advice, supplemented by working closely with Jobcentre Plus.
