TALL SHIPS
Tall ship sailing is a unique bonding experience for young people. Trips last between five days and three weeks, and involve activities such as setting the sails, preparing the food and cleaning the ship. On the biggest ships there are 48 young people, most of whom do not know each other when they arrive. So it's an environment which is all about supporting one another through challenges such as climbing the rigging or getting used to the swell. They soon get their sea legs and appreciate the fact you are harnessing nature, says Chas Cowell, youth development manager at the Tall Ships Youth Trust.
