Committee member Carolyn Hayman said tackling disengagement was a key challenge for the Tomlinson report, which is due out next week.
The report aims to design a curriculum to engage 14-year-olds. The reforms could also see accreditation for young people who care for a relative.
"We don't want them to specialise prematurely at 14," said Hayman. "But if they've gone through a broader experience, studying subjects of more relevance, fewer will drop out."
