Education News: Special needs - Halton issues the most statements

Halton Borough Council has retained its position as the most prolific issuer of special educational needs statements.

New figures published by the Department for Education and Skills showthat 4.8 per cent of children in the Cheshire-based local authority havestatements. This compares with a national average of 2.9 per cent.

The local authorities issuing the least statements are Nottingham,Lewisham, Nottinghamshire and City of London. Only 1.5 per cent ofpupils in Nottingham have statements and the figure drops to 1.4 percent in Lewisham, one per cent in Nottinghamshire and 0.4 per cent inthe City of London.
