Education News: Special Needs - Drop in court cases againstcouncils

The number of parents taking councils to court over special needs provision has fallen by four per cent during the last year, according to the latest government figures.

The Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal's annual reportshows that the number of registered appeals dropped from 3,354 in2003/04 to 3,215 in 2004/05.

A spokesman said: "There is no clear reason for this reduction but if itmeans that more parents were satisfied by the actions being taken bylocal authorities in respect of their children with special educationalneeds, then that must be a cause for satisfaction."
