Education News: Special needs - Down's families battle for support

A third of parents with Down's syndrome children experience discrimination from professionals, a new report claims.

The Down's Syndrome Association's report also showed that two-thirds found state provision of speech therapy inadequate.

Carol Boys, chief executive of the association, said: "We welcome the Government's move to include children with Down's into mainstream school, but further support is clearly needed.

"The requests for help from parents have a depressingly familiar ring, as they fight discrimination and ignorance." P www.downs-syndrome.org.uk
