Education News: Scotland - Murder prompts a review for council

West Lothian Council is to review its policies on school absences and transport after the murder of 11-year-old schoolboy Rory Blackhall.

West Lothian Educational Services is putting together a review group toconsult on whether their transport and absence policies should bealtered to improve child protection.

Hugh Tuckerman, professional services manager at West LothianEducational Services, said: "We will look at our policies in light ofthis tragedy to see if there is any need for change."

The review group, which is to consist of senior education officers, willbe formed by the end of September, with the results expected inDecember.

Blackhall was found dead last month after he failed to turn up forprimary school in Livingston,West Lothian. It was only discovered he wasmissing when his grandfather arrived to pick him up at the end of theday.
