Education News: Scotland - Business skills for disaffected pupils

A programme targeting disaffected pupils in Scottish secondary schools is to benefit from 1m of funding from the Scottish Executive and one of the country's leading businessmen.

The Xlerate project will teach business skills to 14- and 15-year-old pupils. It will be run by Young Enterprise Scotland, the Prince's Scottish Youth Business Trust and the Prince's Trust for Scotland. It builds on the existing xl programme available in 42 secondary schools, which will be eligible to pilot Xlerate.

The project is jointly funded by the executive and the Hunter Foundation, which was set up by Tom Hunter - who founded the Sports Division retail chain - to fund education and enterprise projects.

Euan Davidson, director of Prince's Trust for Scotland, said: "By linking with Young Enterprise Scotland we will be able to deliver a much stronger enterprise project."
