Education News: National Curriculum - Unions welcome addedflexibility

Teaching unions have largely welcomed the new slimmed down secondary curriculum, which gives schools more flexibility to tailor learning to pupils.

Teachers will be able to help struggling pupils as well as stretch themost able.

There will be more opportunities for learning "life skills" likepersonal finance and a move away from the traditional timetable dividedinto subject-based lessons.

The Association of School and College Leaders' general secretary JohnDunford said: "The advantage of the new framework is that it putscontrol into the hands of schools, letting them decide when and how tointroduce curriculum changes."
