The guidance will take the form of a practical handbook for specialschools looking at developing effective outreach. It is expected to belaunched at a conference on 13 January.
The department recently set out draft standards for all specialeducational needs advisory and support services including outreachprovided by special and mainstream schools. The standards aim to ensureservices have a clear purpose that takes into account other provision inthe area and the needs of particular schools and pupils.
