Education News: Governors - More recognition for contribution

An education charity has called for school governors to be given the same recognition as non-executive directors of companies.

Research carried out by the University of Hertfordshire and commissionedby the charity School Governors' One-Stop Shop, found that almost halfof governors (44 per cent) saw themselves as a non-executivedirector.

The charity's chief executive Steve Acklam said: "It's clear thatgovernors contribute considerably to the planning and development ofschools and it's key that this contribution is both recognised andacknowledged by the wider community."
