Education News: Extended schools - Southwark plans get the go ahead

Southwark council is to set up eight "community networks" of schools housing multi-agency teams as it develops its extended school strategy.

The south London council already has two pilot networks up and running in Bermondsey and East Dulwich. Evidence from these will be used in developing the other clusters.

The council said the networks would make clear the threshold between mainstream and preventative services.

Children in Southwark are more likely to live in overcrowded, rented accommodation than the national average.

The council has also launched a consultation on its Young Southwark strategy for children and young people.

Romi Bowen, its director of children's services, said the strategy would "ensure services are developed to meet the priorities of the Children Act 2004".
