Education News: Education stats - Waltham Forest

1.08% of half days missed due to unauthorised absence in 2004/05 (0.78 per cent in England)

- 39.8% of primary pupils did not have English as their first languagein January 2005 (11.7 per cent in England)

- 1.6% of primary pupils with special educational needs statements inJanuary 2004 (1.6 per cent in England)

- 18.9% of nursery and primary school pupils taking free school meals inJanuary 2005 (13.4 per cent in England)

Last year's inspection of Waltham Forest Local Education Authorityconcluded that the council had made "important improvements" in itssupport for pupils with special educational needs. However, it warnedthe council should do more to track the achievements of specialeducational needs pupils below national curriculum levels.
