0.5% of half days missed due to unauthorised absence in 2004/05 (0.78% in England)

- 1.6% of primary pupils with SEN statements in January 2004 (1.6 percent in England)

- 7.5% of primary pupils did not have English as their first language inJanuary 2005 (11.7 per cent in England)

- 8.9% of nursery and primary school pupils taking free school meals inJanuary 2005 (13.4 per cent in England)

Bedfordshire was commended for its record on school attendance in itsannual performance assessment last year. The report said: "Attendance isgood, particularly in secondary schools, where both authorised andunauthorised absence is low." But the report added that the rate ofpermanent exclusion was high for pupils with a statement of specialeducational needs.
