1.4% of primary pupils with SEN statements in January 2004 (1.6 per cent in England)

0.05% of the school population excluded permanently in 2002/03 (0.12 per cent in England)

York Council's assistant director for education, Jenny Vickers, said: "York has a dynamic strategy for school improvement, which is built on good working relationships between the network of schools and senior officers from the local education authority.
