1 min read
The Department for Education and Skills is holding urgent talks with a number of local authorities that have failed to sufficiently develop local plans for tackling bad behaviour across their secondary schools.

Children Now has learned that schools minister Jacqui Smith wrote tochildren's services directors last month asking for information onprogress towards getting schools to work together to improve behaviourand persistent truancy. She requested information on every authority'sprogress in this area - but a significant number of councils failed torespond to her request.

The minister's letter, which was addressed to directors of children'sservices and chief education officers, said: "We would like to know, byJuly 22, if you plan to have any collaborations to improve behaviour andpersistent truancy in place by January 2006 and your plans to have allsecondary schools working in collaboration by September 2007."
