Education News: Admissions - Children in care to get priority bylaw

Admissions authorities across England will now be required by law to help looked-after children get into the school of their choice.

The Education (Admission of Looked-after Children) Regulations 2006 cameinto force last week.

The regulations require local education authorities and schools thatcontrol their intake to give priority in their oversubscription criteriato looked-after children.

But although the regulation has already come into force, it will onlyapply to admissions arrangements in the school year 2007/08 andsubsequent years.
