With just over a month to go, the Government says "more than 5,000"schools are now offering core extended services.
A Department for Children, Schools and Families spokesman insisted thismeans it is "ahead of trajectory" for every school to offer extendedservices by 2010. But it means that around 1,000 schools will have toradically up their service provision in the first few weeks of theautumn term if the target is to be met.
This summer sees many schools across the country providing holidayprovision through the extended schools initiative.
In Plymouth, pooling extended services money between nine schools hasenabled them to organise a number of big events throughout the summer,including a family day that attracted more than 300 participants.
