Easter timing raises childcare demand

This year's unusually early Easter school holidays will result in some parents having to pay for up to four weeks of childcare.

Now a leading childcare consultant is calling for a fixed Easter break so parents do not face the hassle and expense of finding four weeks of childcare. James Hempsall, director of Hempsall Consultancies, which carries out childcare research for local authorities, said: "Easter holidays are spread over four weeks this year for families who live, work and have children at school in different local authority areas.

"A fixed date for Easter and a consistent school break is required to meet the needs of modern families and support providers of holiday childcare, a provision that is both lacking in supply and widely demanded and needed by parents."
