Thames Valley Police is co-ordinating the move to bring the dogs on to school premises with Buckinghamshire Local Education Authority, Buckinghamshire Youth Service and local drug action teams.
Tim Andrew, headmaster of Chesham High School, said: "We want to make schools a safe place for children and to deter and identify young people who have a drug problem and give them support."
The pilot will see dogs from Thames Valley Police brought unannounced into school grounds. They will also visit premises discreetly to sniff out areas of drug use.
Bill Moore, personal and social health education adviser for Buckinghamshire LEA, said: "We have consulted young people and the vast majority of them felt it was a positive move."
