One in 20 children in the UK is disabled. That is 770,000 children.
With such a large number, you would think services for families withdisabled children would be more organised, but delayed assessments,multiple referrals, long waiting times and fights over funding stillprevail, and it is something that several of the pathfinder children'strusts have focused on improving.
Turning feedback from parents, carers, and young disabled people intoaction has been a top priority for Toby Price, manager of the children'strust in the London Borough of Sutton. "We were finding that ourservices were poorly co-ordinated and fragmented, which was exacerbatedby duplication and a tendency for services to get involved too late," headmits.
